Welcome to Lombok

The centre of Lombok is dominated by the spectacular crater of Mount Rinjani, one of Indonesian's highest peaks and a serious challange to the more adventures and energetic traveller. The lower slopes of Rinjani are home to beautiful picturesque craff villages where traditional weaving, pottery and craving are the local industries, exporting to Bali, Jakarta and beyond. Further shouth lie the bustling game fish market at Tanjung Luar and the famous south coast beaches which surround the fishing village of Kuta, another popular destination for foreign visitors.

Here the climate is more arid compared to the fertile north and landscape more similar to something out of the Wild west than tropical Asia to the north.

After making your way through hills of dense greenery, the vibrant greens of sculpted rice paddies, clear flowing rivers and surrounding jungle, to be suddenly on a wide arid plain punctuated only best by desert shrubs and rocks is a little surprising. If you blink you might miss th eborder where recognisable tropical Asia ends and a landscape more in tune with African savanna envelopes you without warning.

Lombok has been compared to Bali and is often referred to as how Bali was 50 years ago. In reality. However the island is very different from its esterly sister in culture.

Lombok is still undiscovered paradise with lush tropical, which will attract every heart with tascination. Some describe the island as the only holiday reosrt where visitors may relax and recover. Plenty of glistening white sandy beaches are found on olmost all of the entire island boundaries, but this is not all that offer, the smaller island to the north namely Gili Air, Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan and to the southwest Gili Nanggu, Gili Gede, Gili Genting and many others, only some of which are inhabited, provide a tropical islan holiday featuring sun-sand-sea marine beauty. Swimming, snorkeling, and diving would be the best, or fishing?" you just get the idea, and all requirments are available.

The people of Lombok called Sasak comprising 90 percents of the 3 milion inhabitants of the island. Moslem is the dominant religion. the Balinese with their Hindu, faith are mostly centred in the western part, therefore temples and shrines are available and the Balinese way of living prevails.

Lombok has successfully intensified its nice production, the introduction of "dry rice" cultivation and the improvement of irrigation system have been given the island the title "the land of Rice" or in Indonesia Bumi Gogo Rancah (Bumi Gora). And most tropical fruits, which are freshened tasty, such as various kinds, papaya, pineapple, banana, and many others are grown and easily found in the island's local markets.

Rinjani Mountain, the thrid highest peak of Indonesia, with its Crater Lake Segara Anak provides an everlasting mountain attraction. The locals of Lombok frequently make rituals visit Rinjani as it's considered one of their sacred places. Segara Anak's hot spring the steamy Gua Susu, and Pancuran Emas "the golden fountain" are some of the main spots where the locals performs their rituals.
